Ukrainian Greek Catholics got both Rome and Moscow
The aggressive actions of Greek Catholics in Ukraine are constantly discussed by the Russian Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches. Hieromonk Stefan (Igumnov), head of the secretariat for inter-Christian relations of the department for external church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, announced this today at a press conference in Moscow.

“The Russian Orthodox Church greatly appreciates the position that the Vatican took throughout the Ukrainian crisis. There have never been statements from the Holy See that could be used for provocations, in order to bring the conflict in this country to a religious level,” Igumnov said.
The General Secretary of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Russia, Igor Kovalevsky, hopes for a direct dialogue between the UGCC and the Russian Orthodox Church, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Knowing many representatives of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, I can say that they are ready for a constructive dialogue with the Russian Orthodox Church. This dialogue is already happening somehow. The position of the papal council for promoting Christian unity: the Russian Orthodox Church should enter into direct dialogue with the UGCC to solve problems,” Kovalevsky said.
The executive secretary of the Catholic Encyclopedia, Alexey Yudin, admitted that Rome has problems with the UGCC.
“The Holy See has problems with Greek Catholics. The position of the UGCC at the level of the hierarchy is sometimes extremely harsh in relation to the political and religious realities of Russia. Here the Holy See takes an extremely competent position: no political assessments. This causes irritation in the UGCC and direct accusations against Pope Francis,” Yudin said.
