Ukrainian boats again tried to pass under the Crimean Bridge
The naval forces boats “Berdyansk” and “Nikopol”, as well as the tugboat “Yany Kapu”, were detained in November last year during an unauthorized attempt to enter the Sea of Azov. were handed over yesterday in neutral waters, and not in the Sea of Azov, as they wanted in Kyiv.
Kommersant writes about this, citing sources familiar with the progress of negotiations on the return of Ukrainian ships, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It is noted that initially Cape Tarkhankut appeared in the Ukrainian media as the place of transfer of the ships, but then it turned out that the ships were returned in neutral waters near Cape Opuk - not far from the Kerch Strait.
According to the publication’s interlocutor, who is familiar with the negotiations on the return of the ships, the location was determined by Russia, which notified Ukraine with a note with the coordinates.
“The source said that Kyiv made it clear during the negotiations that it would like to pick up its boats and tugboat in the Sea of Azov - that is, where they were heading a year ago (the ships were then heading to the port of Mariupol). But Moscow did not agree to this, since this would mean the completion of the operation that began a year ago on the passage of Ukrainian ships to Azov through the Kerch Strait,” the newspaper writes.
“Nobody wanted to help them complete their operation. Therefore, we returned them to where we took them,” the publication’s interlocutor added.
It is noteworthy that after the incident in the Kerch Strait Ukraine no longer took risks and did not undertake unauthorized attempts to pass through Russian territorial waters.
