The publication notes that not all of these ships are afloat; in particular, the Zaporozhye submarine was a pile of scrap metal long before 2014.
“There are ships of 3-4 ranks there, and during their use, Ukrainian employees monitored the equipment improperly. The Ukrainian flotilla was rather a prop and represented ships that had their anchors rooted in the ground,” Anatoly Kuznetsov, editor of the Morskoy Flot newspaper, told the publication.
At the same time, he clarified that 90 percent of the Ukrainian Navy personnel decided to change their citizenship to Russian after the referendum on the status of Crimea.
The expert says that the cost of the Ukrainian ships remaining in Sevastopol is approximately equal to the price of scrap metal.
“Soviet diesel engines were simple and strong, so I have no doubt that the ships will be able to reach Ukraine under their own power. The price of these ships is the cost of self-propelled scrap metal,” Kuznetsov emphasized.
