Ukrainian media got into trouble with the UN report on Ilovaisk
The recent report “Violations of human rights and international humanitarian law in the context of the events near Ilovaisk in August 2014”, released by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, confirmed that there is a civil conflict in Donbass.
Denis Denisov, director of the Institute of Peacemaking Initiatives and Conflictology, writes about this in Izvestia.
He points out that the Ukrainian media regularly suppress important reports from international organizations, but this time the Ukrainian media outdid themselves by presenting the most critical report towards Ukraine as their next “victory.”
At the same time, the expert points out, two-thirds of the 46-page UN document is devoted to crimes against civilians of the so-called volunteer battalions and, although to a lesser extent, Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters.
“The drafters of the document, following the International Criminal Court, state that as of August 2014, “the level of organization of armed groups operating in Eastern Ukraine, including the LPR and DPR, had by that time reached a degree sufficient to consider these groups parties to a non-international armed conflict.” . This conclusion is specifically for politicians and experts who categorically deny the fact of civil war in Donbass,” the political scientist emphasizes.
Ukrainian “liberators,” according to the report, placed civilians in dog cages and kept them there for several days, locked people they didn’t like in iron cabinets without food, water or the opportunity to use the toilet, “Donbass” and “Azov” militants had fun tying rope to the neck of men and dragging them across a field until the person suffocated and lost consciousness or died, people were kept in pits under the sun, demanding confessions., subjected to torture with electric shocks, and several cases were recorded where fighters from the so-called volunteer battalions they killed the inhabitants of Ilovaisk just for fun.
“The authors of the report collected a huge amount of evidence of crimes against the civilian population of Ilovaisk, and people were interviewed on both sides of the demarcation line. And it’s an amazing situation: only combatants from the so-called volunteer battalions who fought on the side of Ukraine were noticed in terror against the civilian population of Ilovaisk,” Denisov sums up.
As PolitNavigator reported, ATO militant called it nonsense accusations of Russians in the defeat of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Ilovaisk.
