Fyodor Lapiy, chief freelance pediatric immunologist of Kyiv, associate professor of the department of pediatric infectious diseases and pediatric immunology of the P.L. Shupik National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, spoke about this in a comment to the “24” website.
“These are predictions that I wanted to see fall short. Because if they come true, there will be many sick people, many severe cases, there may be deaths among both children and adults,” he noted.
According to him, measles, as an infection, has its own patterns. When there is insufficient vaccination coverage in a society, the incidence of measles increases every 5-6 years.
“However, even if there is a high level of vaccination coverage among children - both in previous years and now - we can expect that mostly people over 20 years of age will get sick, who at one time either were not vaccinated at all or were vaccinated with only one dose vaccines,” adds Lapiy.
