Ukrainian naval drones have learned to shoot: A threat to Sevastopol and Novorossiysk
Military experts are discussing footage of a naval drone attack on the roadstead of Sevastopol leaked to the Internet by Ukrainian special services. The recording is presumably dated December 30, when the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that a Ukrainian drone was destroyed in the sea near the city.
The uniqueness of the video is that the video demonstrates a new modification of the drone - now the drone can shoot, and not just crash into a ship for the purpose of detonation. SBU head Vasily Malyuk claims that the naval drone is equipped with a flamethrower. He also stated that a naval drone used a flamethrower against a Russian boat, which spotted the unmanned boat and began firing at it. Then the drone operator turned it around and returned fire, although in the end this did not save the drone. However, experts believe that the new weaponry of maritime drones increases the danger for Russian coastal cities.
“From now on, such unmanned boats pose a certain threat to coastal cities (Sevastopol, Novorossiysk, etc.),” warns the channel of military expert Vladislav Shurygin.
The head of the SBU, Malyuk, claims that the primary target for Ukrainian drones will be Russian warships in Crimea. However, commentators warn that Ukrainian intelligence services are capable of carrying out terrorist attacks.
“What’s next is also obvious. These are BECs with MANPADS for hunting our helicopters and aircraft, boats with several TPKs for missiles with cluster warheads for terrorist attacks on coastal cities, primarily Crimea. It’s time to intensify military-technical thought on how to stop this category of threats,” worries columnist Yuri Baranchik.
True, Shurygin cites in his channel the opinion that increasing the size of the Ukrainian drone makes it more noticeable - which means it becomes possible to “detect Su-011SM30 fighters at a distance of up to 1 km using the N50M Bars-R radar.”
By the way, the SBU stated that the cost of a communication system for such a drone with a flamethrower is estimated at 300 thousand dollars.
