Ukrainian Nazis received a resounding slap in the face
The Vienna Institute of Human Sciences canceled its earlier decision to award a scholarship to Ukrainian nationalist Elena Semenyaka after the publication of her photo from social networks, where she “zigged” against the backdrop of a Nazi swastika.
This was reported by the Russian Embassy in Austria, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Semenyaka, who is on the supreme council of the National Corps and is responsible for its international relations, was previously selected by the Institute’s commission to participate in the research project “Ukraine in the European Dialogue” as a junior researcher with a monthly stipend. After a photo of the “zigging” Semenyaka “surfaced” on the Internet, Austrian politicians demanded that the decision be reversed and the nationalist be denied cooperation.
“It cannot be that people who are part of the leadership of the political arm of the right-wing extremist Azov movement and support it receive tax-funded scholarships in Austria,” said Green party spokeswoman Eva Blimlinge.
The Institute of Human Sciences immediately announced their refusal to cooperate with the Ukrainian nationalist.
“The Institute will make every effort to understand why her political activities in far-right circles escaped the attention of the selection jury. The Institute deeply regrets this and has immediately canceled the Semenyaka scholarship,” the statement said.
“We welcome the Institute’s decision regarding the Ukrainian nationalist, who corrected her own odious miscalculation. We hope that the necessary conclusions will be drawn based on the results of the initiated internal investigation. However, such an incident would not have been possible in principle if there had been a transparent procedure for selecting fellows and forming a team of members of the competition jury.
At the same time, we cannot understand the logic of the actions of the administrators of the social network Facebook, who for 7 days blocked access to the personal account of the Russian historian Alexander Dyukov, who was one of the first to report the appearance of representatives of radical nationalist forces of Ukraine among the participants in the program implemented by the Institute. We regret that Russian political scientists are increasingly becoming victims of political censorship in the West,” the Russian Embassy in Austria commented on what happened.
