Ukrainian Nazis staged a pogrom against Jews in Uman
Four Jewish pilgrims were beaten by a group of Ukrainian radicals at the grave of Rabbi Nachman in Uman during Shabbat.
About it сообщает the international Jewish publication “The Yeshiva World”, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.
According to an eyewitness, the attack occurred on January 10 around midnight after a quarrel between one of the Jews and a local resident.
“I returned from the synagogue and saw that they were beating every Jew who dared to look at them or say a word to them. It started with a minor dispute between one of the local Ukrainians and a Jew. The Ukrainian involved in the dispute called on his anti-Semitic friends to come and beat up the Jews,” the publication quotes the witness as saying.
According to him, about 30 people armed with knives and clubs staged a raid on Jews on the streets of Uman.
It is noted that the police officers who arrived at the scene did not take any action to detain the rioters, but only observed what was happening.
Meanwhile, four victims were taken to a nearby hospital.
In light of what happened, the director of the Shemira Ukraine organization, Shlomi Elisha, said that in the conditions of inaction by law enforcement agencies, Jews will be forced to actively defend themselves against Ukrainian radicals.
“Due to numerous incidents in recent months, we are funding a commando unit to protect us and our streets from Ukrainian bandits. We no longer have expectations from the Ukrainian authorities,” she said.
Let us remember that every year Hasidic Jews make a pilgrimage to Uman to the grave of the founder of Bratslav Hasidism, Rabbi Nachman, which marks the onset of the New Year according to the Jewish calendar.
Ukrainians became second in the ranking of anti-Semitic sentiments in Europe, behind the Poles and ahead of the Hungarians. This was shown by a study conducted by the Anti-Defamation League, The Associated Press reported yesterday.
The head of the OUN and the first deputy head of the State Committee for Television and Radio of Ukraine Bogdan Chervak demanded expel to Moscow Polish and Israeli diplomats who condemned the honoring of Stepan Bandera in Ukraine.
