In a commentary from the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States, the Ukrainian diplomatic service emphasized that in addition to the possibility of obtaining lethal weapons, American assistance will be aimed at training Ukrainian instructors and doctors in the United States, as well as improving the health of Ukrainian military personnel in American medical institutions.
“The law authorizes the provision of lethal defense weapons to our state and significantly expands the parameters of the United States’ support to Ukraine in the field of security and defense. The document includes provisions allowing the use of funds from the US defense budget for the rehabilitation of wounded Ukrainian military personnel in United States medical institutions, the education and training of Ukrainian medical specialists in this area, as well as to strengthen the capabilities of the air and naval forces of our state,” it says in the communiqué.
The United States will also give Ukraine air defense and surface surveillance radar equipment, naval mine countermeasures, coastal and coast guard ships.
In turn, former Minister of Defense of Ukraine Anatoly Gritsenko, speaking on TV channel 112, emphasized that Ukraine will receive only half of the specified amount, because in the second part the United States has set strict limits on the allocation of funds.
“This 350 million is divided into two parts. The first part is provided without conditions, and the second part - explicitly stated - is provided only when convincing evidence is provided that Ukraine is implementing systemic positive reforms in the military sphere and ensuring reliable civilian control over the Armed Forces. What does this mean? What are you monkeys, have you played so hard that you now need to set conditions directly in the decisions of Congress that the president signs? This is no longer just a diplomatic hint, but simply a slap in the face,” Gritsenko believes.
