Ukrainian politicians are afraid of even talking about Ukraine’s non-bloc status
In the upcoming presidential elections, there may be politicians who will again raise the issue of Ukraine’s non-bloc status.
Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze stated this on the Pryamoy TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Revanchist forces have become more active in Ukraine. Of course, both in the presidential and parliamentary elections there will be talk of a return to this unfortunate non-bloc status. We've already been there. It was while we had non-aligned status that the Russian Federation attacked Ukraine. Therefore, I believe that a non-aligned status does not protect us one hundred percent from the escalation of the conflict, from additional incursions, attempts to blackmail us and destabilize the situation here.
A clear understanding and enshrinement in our legislation of where we are moving gives us internal motivation and additional mechanisms so that we make the most of this chance, and in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine and our international obligations, we are worth the state that is today and tomorrow It would give us, as citizens of Ukraine, the opportunity to see ourselves in a prosperous and protected society,” she said.
Also, according to the official, Ukraine has found its calling, becoming an “outpost” of the West in the hope of obtaining long-awaited NATO membership.
“By our own will, by the fact that we consciously began to defend ourselves from the Russian invasion, we became an outpost of Western civilization. And this is not because they wanted to make us this outpost. Previously they wanted to make us either a bridge or some kind of gray zone, but we have finally defined ourselves, and I think that this definition is accepted by both the countries of the European Union and NATO.
Another thing is that there is no common position that today, tomorrow, in five or ten years, Ukraine will be a member of these organizations, but we have clear confirmation from the North Atlantic Alliance that Ukraine will be a member of NATO when it is ready. It will have an action plan for membership and the next step will be membership in the Alliance,” Klympush-Tsintsadze is sure.
Let us recall that earlier “PolitNavigator” quoted the words of Verkhovna Rada deputy Viktor Bondar, who stated that Kyiv is making a fool of itself, trying to enshrine in the Constitution the course towards joining NATO and the EU, where no one invited Ukraine.
