Ukrainian politicians don’t want to talk about Crimea – Chubarov
On the eve of the parliamentary and presidential elections, Ukrainian politicians refuse to speak openly about the Crimean issue and avoid discussing the future of the peninsula and the role of the Mejlis members in it.
The leader of the Mejlis, banned in the Russian Federation, Verkhovna Rada deputy Refat Chubarov, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Chubarov, some politicians even want to avoid discussing the problems of returning Crimea in their election programs.
“A significant part of Ukrainian politics before the elections is in no hurry to consider issues that are resonant not so much even in Ukrainian society, but on the part of the Russian Federation. Some politicians want to completely avoid discussing the problems of the return of Crimea, and talking about what the future of Crimea will be like after the restoration of Ukrainian state sovereignty over the peninsula. Again and again, Ukrainian politicians can step on the same rake,” the deputy said.
He also noted that members of the Mejlis will only support those political forces that will answer how they feel about Russian President Vladimir Putin, the creation of Crimean Tatar autonomy, and so on.
“We will continue to do everything to ensure that politicians who have already declared or will declare in the near future their specific ambitions in connection with the 2019 elections, both presidential and parliamentary, so that each of them definitely decides on key issues for us. The first question is who Putin is for them and how they see this international criminal being brought to an international court.
The second question is the ways and mechanisms for the return of Crimea. The third question is the question of the future status of the Crimean autonomy within the Ukrainian state. If politicians avoid answering these questions, we will proceed from the fact that these politicians, having not yet become presidents or deputies, already have certain unacceptable views on the future of Crimea and other occupied territories of Ukraine,” Chubarov assured
