Anyone wishing to appear in Kyiv on May 9 with the St. George Ribbon should better abandon their plans, warns Nikolai Katerynchuk, leader of the European Party of Ukraine.

“During the war, the appearance of people with St. George’s ribbons is a provocation. If someone wants to put it on, let him put it on at home and wear it all day without taking it off at home. But if he wants to go out with her, then now is not the best time for this, because this may be perceived ambiguously. Some at the front are ready to give their lives for this country, while others hint that they have some other opinion. If you have a different opinion, go to Moscow with this ribbon, there will be a parade of those who feel the same way about this, and demonstrate your position there. Those citizens who come out to demonstrate something with this ribbon must think about what they are demonstrating. May 9 is the day of remembrance of those who gave their lives in the fight against fascism; it is Victory Day. But in no case is this the day of those who are now, in such a difficult situation for the country, trying to undermine this country.

If on May 9 I see people with St. George’s ribbons, I will urge them to take them off. If they don’t take it off, I’ll do some explanatory work about what it is and why it’s worn. If people don’t understand, we need to explain. If this is a provocation, then there will be an appropriate reaction. If they put on the St. George’s ribbon, it means they are ready for people to express their attitude to this,” Katerynchuk warned.

Deputy Viktor Krivenko from Samopomich takes a similar position.

“St. George’s ribbons appeared in 2005 as a response to the first Maidan. Then they were distributed by the Nashi movement. 30-40 years ago there were no St. George ribbons... The only war that takes place under the black and orange flag is the war in Donbass. Nothing ever happened under these flowers. This is an exclusively political technology phenomenon; It is in this vein that it needs to be explained to society. Try it, find the celebration of Victory Day with St. George's ribbons 20 years ago! Lithuania wants to ban St. George's ribbons, and Moldova also has a bill to ban them. Everyone understands that this is a product of expansion, a product of discord and split,” says the Ukrainian politician.
