Ukrainian Orthodox believers are moving to create self-defense units
The Ukrainian state, putting pressure on canonical Orthodoxy, is pushing believers to organize resistance.
Pavel Rudyakov, head of the Perspektiva information and analytical center, said this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The expert noted that after attacks by Ukrainian neo-Nazis from the C14 group, one of the leaders of the Opposition Bloc, Verkhovna Rada deputy Yuri Boyko, to a rally at the Vatutin monument in Kiev, threatened that next time he would bring such a number of people who would be able to repel the radicals.
“In essence, the state is pushing for the formation of self-defense units. Believe me, I know for sure several parishes of the UOC in different parts of the country, where people are ready to defend churches through the creation of self-defense units. This means slaughterhouses. And bandits like C14 act with impunity. But in society there are even officers of my generation who went through Afghanistan, of whom a dozen people can disperse a hundred of these cowardly ones, attacking the defenseless in a flock. But these are terrible things. And the state not only does not put a barrier, it, on the contrary, pushes towards this,” said Rudyakov.
