Thus, a Verkhovna Rada deputy from Yulia Tymoshenko’s “Batkivshchyna” faction, who asked not to refer to him, told the publication that in 2015, Ukrainian business established large-scale schemes for exporting products to the Russian Federation through Crimea.
“According to official statistics, this year the volume of exports to Russia has decreased by more than five times,” the deputy noted. – And this is after the collapse of last year. That is, officially our trade has symbolic volumes. But trucks were coming to Crimea in a stream: 200-300 vehicles with tens of tons of cargo in each - every day through all three checkpoints. 500–900 trucks per day.”
In addition, Ukrainian businessmen have found a way to transport goods across the border with Crimea, despite the blockade organized by the Mejlis members who left the peninsula with the support of nationalist organizations.
“Not a single truck passed through a single checkpoint - and in Simferopol, in a store they sell Ukrainian-made dairy products, which bear the date of production - yesterday's date,” a representative of one of the nationalist organizations taking part in the blockade told NG. “It turns out that shuttles have appeared: the cars we pass through carry the permitted amount of food 10–20 times a day. Enough to trade. Well, these are still minor things. It turned out that our railway is not completely blocked, and this is a serious opportunity for smuggling and other volumes. We had to resolve the issue.”
