Ukrainian film distributors preferred to show the blockbuster “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” instead of the recently released propaganda film “Cyborgs”, glorifying the so-called soldiers. ATO holding positions at Donetsk airport.

Chairman of the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting Yuriy Artemenko announced this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to him, the film "Cyborgs", which was released on December 7, has already set several national records - a week before the release, several theaters were completely sold out, the first week of release collected 8 million UAH.

However, it seems that film distributors do not share the official’s optimism - they preferred to show Star Wars.

“Star Wars starts next week.” If you want to go this weekend, you won't see them anymore. ("Cyborgs") on the screens, all the screens will have Star Wars. This is horror, nonsense, and I don’t know what to call it, I don’t want to choose bad words,” said Yuri Artemenko.

This situation has already become the reason for convening a meeting, initiated by the State Film Agency. Representatives of government agencies, distributors and distributors were invited to the event, and the head of the Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information Policy Victoria Syumar and deputy ministers of information policy also participated.

“I understand those distributors for whom the main thing is money. But there must also be some kind of social burden. We have many TV channels broadcasting on the ATO line, understanding that there is no commercial component, but they understand the social need. Actually, this is what we called on distributors to do yesterday - “guys, you knew that such a film was patriotic, you could postpone the release of Star Wars a little. Nothing would have changed for your money if Ukraine had watched it not on the 14th, but on the 21st.” Did they hear us? Don't know. Based on the results of the meeting, they seemed to have heard. But I have long been a realist, I know that many TV channels are calling not to let... understand the feelings of people who live in this country and not to traumatize them with some events, but, unfortunately, they do not hear.

We'll see if the film distributors have heard it tomorrow; cinema schedules for the next week are usually written on Wednesday. If not, then both the legislator and society will react accordingly,” the official said.

Yuriy Artemenko threatened distributors that if they do not comply with the legislative norm on the mandatory share of Ukrainian content using the example of “Cyborgs”, then this norm will be tightened in the direction of increasing the fine and the mandatory showing of Ukrainian films in prime time.
