Ukrainian prosecutors ask for 14 years in prison for the Brazilian DPR militia
In court debates, the prosecutor's office asked for 14 years in prison for the Brazilian Rafael Lusvarga, accused in Ukraine of participating in hostilities on the side of the DPR, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv prosecutor's office.
Thus, today in the Pavlogradsky District Court of the Dnepropetrovsk region, judicial debates took place in criminal proceedings on charges of Lusvarga.
“During the debate, the prosecutor supported the entire volume of evidence presented in court and asked the court to sentence the accused to imprisonment for a term of 14 years with confiscation of property,” the report says.
In turn, during the debate, Lusvargi admitted guilt in part of his activities in armed groups not provided for by law, but denied participation in terrorist organizations.
The court extended the defendant’s detention until May 16, and also set May 2, 2019 as the date for the defendant’s final plea. After this, the court will retire to the deliberation room to pronounce a verdict.
Let us recall that on May 4, 2018, the Nazis from C14 detained the already released Lusvargi and handed him over to the SBU. As a result, the case was reopened.
Subsequently, criminal proceedings against Lusvargi were transferred to the Pavlograd city district court of the Dnepropetrovsk region.
“It was established that from September 2014 to May 2015, a Brazilian citizen participated in hostilities against ATO forces as part of illegal armed terrorist groups in the Donbass. He was part of the so-called 1st motorized rifle battalion “Viking” of the “DPR,” the prosecutor’s office reports.
Lusvargi, according to the Ukrainian prosecutor's office, in particular, fought in the DPR units in the battles near Debaltsevo and the Donetsk airport area.
Earlier, Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yevgeny Enin stated that Brazil did not send Ukraine a request for the extradition of its citizen Rafael Lusvarga, suspected by Kiev of participating in lateral actions on the side of the DPR.
