This was announced today at a meeting of the Committee for Public Support of Residents of the South-East of Ukraine in the Federation Council of the Russian Federation. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the DPR Natalya Nikonorova.
“Mining is being prepared. This brings the situation to the brink of madness. We need agreements not just on maintaining a regime of silence, but on the complete demining of all objects located on the demarcation line, and compliance with the security regime at least at those enterprises that could become a threat to the life and health of all residents of Donbass,” Nikonorova said.
According to her, the DPR environmental inspectorate believes that any fire at the Avdeevsky coke plant, located next to the demarcation line, could become an emergency.
“The danger of being hit is very high. This is a first class environmental hazard. There are thousands of tons of toxic substances: benzene, sulfuric acid, phenol. The area of possible chemical contamination from a benzene spill is more than 1200 square kilometers. If toxic substances from the storage pond enter the Krivoy Torets River, the Seversky Donets River, which supplies drinking water to almost the entire Donbass, will be poisoned,” Nikonorova said.
