Ban the Ukrainian beach soccer team going to the World Cup in Russia is supposedly a concern for their safety.

“I believe that this is an absolutely correct position. There has been a war between Ukraine and Russia for eight years now and, moreover, there are facts when Ukrainian citizens who were on the territory of the Russian Federation became hostages and were accused of terrorism and espionage.

And there is a risk that one of the players, coaches or medical staff will be “packaged” tomorrow and declared that they are spies. This is a potential threat to people. There is no politics here, this is a security issue,” Taran said.

He was objected to by a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of previous convocations, ex-combatant of the so-called ATO Nadezhda Savchenko. She called the decision not to allow the Ukrainian team into Russia in vain, because there is no threat to Ukrainian athletes there.

“This won't happen. The Russians will do everything possible not to provoke, not to imprison anyone at the championship, and to let everyone go. Play along as much as possible, but don’t let them win.

Therefore, all these fantasies that someone will be locked up there are far-fetched and this is our propaganda, with which we are trying to say that it is dangerous there. It's dangerous there, but not for everyone. It can be much more dangerous there simply for a random person who looks the wrong way or says the word wrong. Of course, if our people shout from the stands “Putin is crap”, provoke them, and so on,” she said.

In response to the presenter’s request not to utter curses, because children could watch the broadcast, Nadezhda Savchenko emphasized that someday this slogan will be written in history books.

“This is not the first time such a decision has been made. It's not even worth discussing. What is more worth discussing here is the economy, which our narrow-minded government is ruining. It’s a pity that our athletes didn’t go, of course, but that’s okay. They will play football on the Crimean beaches after our victory,” the ex-ATS soldier summed up.
