The miners' action brought together about 500-700 people aged from 25 to 65 years old with DPR flags and "Fascism will not pass" posters. Among them were women.
After 2-3 speeches, one of the leaders of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, appeared on the square, accompanied by machine gunners, who supported the protest, however, having finished his speech, he quickly left the square.
A few minutes later, the sound of flying fighters was heard - a total of 3 aircraft were seen. One of the planes was in the air quite high, but the other flew at a low altitude, quite frightening the people in the square with the noise of the engines.
“The journalists simply ran away, thinking that the bombing of the square was about to begin. But the miners - no, they continued to stand, looking around, but did not leave the square. However, soon the organizers, after playing the song “Get up, huge country,” ended the action,” the reporter said.
Soon street fighting began in Donetsk. A Navigator correspondent witnessed how people were running in panic at the intersection of Artyom and Titov streets, fleeing from a shootout, the sounds of which were heard from the direction of Baku Commissars Street. Machine guns and a heavy machine gun were used there.
Presumably, the shootout could take place in the area of the checkpoint on Matrosova Street - in the center of a densely populated quarter.
