This was reported by the Kiev edition of Vesti.

As stated in the publication, the final versions of school programs will be presented in early May.

In total, schoolchildren, their parents and teachers sent about 1000 comments on 13 subjects, some of them were accepted, and twice as many were rejected. The most heated discussions are around the curriculum of the “History of Ukraine” course and foreign literature.

In turn, they propose to remove Russian classics from the “World Literature” course, adding modern world bestsellers. Thus, the work “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” was added to the program for fifth-graders; in the 7th grade they will read the fairy tale “Howl’s Wandering Castle” by Diana Jones; in the 8th grade – the novel “When Angels Rest” by the modern Russian writer Marina Aromstam; in the 9th - “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee and “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury.

The novels and stories of Leo Tolstoy and Fyodor Dostoevsky were removed from the program, but Chekhov, Gogol, Bulgakov and Heine and Goethe were left.
