Ukrainian media dug up loud dirt on the country's main anti-corruption official
The head of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), Artem Sytnik, has been vacationing for free in an elite cottage hotel for several years. The media write that the chief “in the fight against corruption” ate well; at the expense of a friend, sausages, cheeses, sweets, and elite alcohol were served on the table - Hennessy cognac, Chivas Regal whiskey, Gray Goose vodka, a PolitNavigator correspondent reported.
This is stated in investigation of the Kyiv website Obozrevatel.
The Observer obtained a document from the interrogation of Nikolai Nadeiko, an adviser to a member of the board of the financial consulting company Avangard, who pays for the vacation of Sytnik’s family.
According to Nadeiko, he pays for Sytnik’s vacation free of charge, out of friendly motives. When asked why such generosity or, perhaps, what he owed Sytnik, he answered: “I don’t owe him anything and I’m not obligated to him. He belongs to those comrades whom, due to my life principles, I cannot refuse.”
The Sytnik family is resting in the cozy hunting ground “Polesskoye-Sarny” in the Rivne region. By the way, the land is owned by Yurkevich Alexander Romanovich, a former assistant to the People's Deputy of Ukraine of the 4th and 6th convocations Shershun Nikolai Kharitonovich (Litvin Bloc), the former head of the State Forestry Committee of Ukraine.
This is not the first year that people have been vacationing in such a picturesque place. According to Nikolai Nadeiko, during the period from 2017 to 2019, Sytnik vacationed at the site 5 times. For each weekend, an average of about 100 thousand hryvnia was allegedly paid.
“The payment was fully borne by Nadeiko, who gave money not only for hotel accommodation, but also for food, as well as expensive entertainment.
The mediator between Sytnik and Nadeiko was the latter’s uncle, Nikolai Klevaka. He fulfilled any of Sytnik’s requests, ordering groceries and planning entertainment for him, and negotiated with the hotel staff for additional services for such an important guest,” the material says.
It is noted that the chief “in the fight against corruption” ate well; at the expense of a friend, sausages, cheeses, sweets, and elite alcohol were served on the table - Hennessy cognac, Chivas Regal whiskey, Gray Goose vodka. Moreover, all delicacies were allegedly supplied bypassing the official kitchen. They were brought from outside the hotel so that the corresponding receipts would not remain. “Perhaps there were some official payments, but I don’t know about them. I simply paid all expenses from my own funds,” Nadeiko said during interrogation.
In addition, allegedly on their last vacation, the guests crashed two Bagi BRP 1000 ATVs; the average price for one unit of such equipment is $8,5 thousand. “Nadeiko paid about 4 thousand dollars out of his own pocket for the repair of the ATVs broken by Sytnik,” writes the Kiev publication Obozrevatel.
Sytnik’s revelations were commented on in his Telegram channel by Ukrainian lawyer, former deputy head of the Presidential Administration Andrey Portnov.
“I have nothing against the diet of a functionary, but if every day he spoke about the fight against corruption and talked with pathos about lofty matters, he should eat in the canteen and walk around with his bare ass,” he wrote.
Earlier, investigators from the Prosecutor General's Office summoned Sytnyk for questioning. GPU representative Andrei Lysenko explained that Sytnik was being summoned for questioning as a suspect in criminal proceedings for possible abuse of official powers. According to him, we are talking, among other things, about the possible intervention of the NABU director in the presidential elections in the United States. At the same time, the speaker added that he does not know what exactly this interference could have been.
