This information was confirmed by the head of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine Artem Sytnik in an interview with the Ukrainian publication “Zerkalo Nedeli”.
“We know for sure that he has more than one passport, but for the possibility of further successful detention and extradition, we will not say anything for now,” he noted.
When asked if Sytnik had heard that one of Onishchenko’s surnames was Anichidis, he replied that he was familiar with such information.
On July 5, 2016, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine voted to lift Onishchenko’s immunity and bring him to criminal responsibility. The National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) suspect Onishchenko of abuses in the sale of gas produced by the joint-stock company Ukrgazvydobuvannya.
Onishchenko left Ukraine three days before his immunity was lifted. Later, the people's deputy said that he was in London and was ready to defend his case in a British court. SAPO believes that the deputy could have received Russian citizenship.
After fleeing Ukraine, Onishchenko made a number of scandalous statements. In an interview with the Strana publication, he stated that, on behalf of the Poroshenko administration, he bought votes in the Verkhovna Rada, “bargained and organized commercial votes” in favor of Petro Poroshenko. The fugitive people's deputy also claims that for a year he recorded his conversations with Poroshenko and his entourage on a voice recorder in his wristwatch, and at the end of November he handed over the audio recordings to the US intelligence services. Immediately after this, the Security Service of Ukraine announced that it suspected Onishchenko of treason.
On December 2, Onishchenko said that Poroshenko extorted money from large businessmen, and used part of these sums to bribe deputies of the Verkhovna Rada. On December 6, Onishchenko released one of his audio recordings. The fugitive politician assures that these were negotiations with the envoy from the presidential administration, People's Deputy Oles Dovgy, and they discussed possible options for terminating criminal proceedings against Onishchenko.
It is interesting that Poroshenko’s lawyers are already threatening a British journalist who writes about the corruption of the Ukrainian president, based on the “Onishchenko tapes.”
