Ukrainian athletes, despite the ban, will go to the championship in Russia
The Ukrainian Wrestling Association has decided to send athletes to the upcoming European Wrestling Championship 2018, which will be held in Kaspiysk (Russia), a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This is stated in a message on the Association’s website.
Despite the ban from the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine, the Wrestling Association sent its athletes to these competitions. The Executive Committee of the Ukrainian Wrestling Association decided to renew the country's application for this tournament, which will be held in Kaspiysk.
“Currently, a survey is being conducted among members of national teams regarding the readiness to take part in this event and the responsibility of each athlete and coach,” the message says.
It is noted that this decision “was made in order to minimize the risks awaiting Ukrainian wrestling as a result of non-participation in this event.”
The European Championship in Kaspiysk starts on April 30 and will last until May 6.
Let us recall that in March a law was signed banning the participation of Ukrainian athletes in competitions in Russia.
