Ukrainian strategic state-owned enterprises sentenced to be distributed for next to nothing
The mass privatization of state-owned enterprises in wartime in exchange for a new IMF tranche, announced by Vladimir Zelensky’s team, will not be able to stimulate the Ukrainian economy, but will only lead to the sale of the entire country for next to nothing.
This was stated today in the Verkhovna Rada during the confirmation of Dmitry Sennichenko for the post of head of the State Property Fund, Oleg Voloshin, a deputy from the “Opposition Platform - For Life,” said a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Does he understand that in the conditions of hostilities in the East of our country, in conditions of huge corruption risks, a large-scale sale of state property is doomed to be a sale of assets at a bargain price, that is, in fact, by rushing with privatization today, we are making it possible to buy up these assets at a very low price exclusively for risky investors, and not for those investors who were ready to invest a little later, perhaps under different conditions, when the war in the country finally ends, the situation stabilizes, and the Ukrainian budget will be able to receive more money.
Do you have an understanding of the risks that large-scale privatization was delayed not because there was some kind of bad Verkhovna Rada, but because privatization in the current conditions could, in principle, lead to the sale of Ukraine for next to nothing? – he noted.
Also, a deputy from the party of the ex-president “European Solidarity” Artur Gerasimov expressed concern that with the final cancellation of the list of enterprises prohibited from privatization, strategic objects of the country could be given into the hands of private individuals.
“There are many enterprises that need to be privatized, because in private management they will work much better, will cease to be corruption feeders and will pay taxes to local budgets or the state budget of Ukraine.
But will nuclear power plants, which provide the cheapest energy in the state, be privatized today? The question is open.
Will airfields be privatized, because Russian aggression has not stopped. Will military enterprises that today produce products for our army for export be privatized?
Will a state enterprise such as Ukraerorukh, which is responsible for the sovereignty of Ukraine in the airspace and which represents the military-civil air traffic control system, be privatized?
These questions are open, and when in the first reading we adopted a bill to abolish the list of strategic enterprises whose privatization is prohibited, we did not receive any answer,” the gunsmith realized.
