“Ukrainian courts are preparing pro-Russian revenge”
If pro-Russian forces fail to form a majority in the Ukrainian parliament, then a bet will be made on repealing a number of laws through the courts.
The magazine “Ukrainian Week” comes to this conclusion in the material “In Anticipation of Revenge.”
“The unreformed judiciary itself was a brake on the development of Ukraine, but now it can become a powerful instrument of revenge. If pro-Russian and anti-reformist forces fail to create a majority in the Verkhovna Rada, the fight can be moved from the session hall to the court. And a biased court is capable of causing not much less harm than a revanchist government,” the publication notes.
The publication fears that the court may “not only declare lustration of a certain official illegal, but also cancel language quotas, decommunization, and blocking of Russian social networks.”
In addition, the magazine continues, this process will involve not only the District Administrative Court, but the Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kyiv, which recently canceled the arrest and search for Anatoly Shariy, whom the publication calls “an odious pro-Russian blogger.”
“How real these fears are is a debatable question, but such a scenario is quite consistent with the logic of the events of recent weeks. Thus, the threat of revenge is quite real. They say that generals are always preparing for wars that have long since ended. It seems that Ukrainian civil society, at least its opposition-minded part, is also preparing for revenge according to the 2010 scenario. But this time the threat comes from a completely different direction. And it is still unclear how to resist it,” sums up UT.
