Ukrainian courts overturn acquittals of Donbass residents accused of “terrorism”
Ukrainian judges are becoming more and more involved in the civil war as its direct participants. Thus, the appeal court returns for review the case of already acquitted civilians of the ATO zone, who were accused of collaborating with the LPR or DPR, and awards them real prison terms. One of the striking examples is the review of the case of the administrator of the Avdeevsky Metal Structures Plant, a native of the city of Yasinovataya, who in January 2015 reported by telephone publicly known information about the advancement of heavy weapons, howitzers, tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, etc. in the city of Dimitrov.

The main argument of the defense was the proof of the illegality of wiretapping private conversations, as well as the suspect’s assertion that he was in the dark about the recipient of his messages.
The prosecutor's new arguments convinced the court that all declassification procedures had been followed, and that the operational materials of the counterintelligence case were now equivalent to recorded evidence. So the panel of judges, guided by internal conviction and reflections on “national security”, accepted the position of the prosecutor, sentencing accused to four years in prison.
Thus, the defamation by Ukrainian courts of natives of the zone of military contact in the civil conflict in the East of Ukraine turns these courts not just into a repressive body, the purpose of which is to ensure the loyalty of the population, but into a punitive body.
