This was stated by the vice-president of the Association of Pig Breeders of Ukraine Oksana Yurchenko.
“The situation is truly critical and everyone agrees with this. Moreover, this year, if I’m not mistaken, more than 10 small enterprises caught fire, and some are not very small. And this is a terrible expense in terms of money. In principle, the State Food and Consumer Service does not sit with folded arms and we, as an association, cooperate with them in this direction. And at the moment, so that this situation can be prevented, two important things are being done: changes are being made to the instructions for the prevention and control of ASF, and secondly, a bill is being developed to ensure biological safety and conservation of livestock farming in Ukraine. In parallel, the ministry and the State Food and Consumer Service are working to ensure that money is included in the budget regarding diseases. After all, compensation is one of the tools so that people are not afraid and these pigs are not transported from those areas where there is a very high threat that they have potentially infected livestock. I hope that next year at least the dynamics will not be so critical,” she said.
Let us remind you that this year in Ukraine more than 26 thousand pigs were destroyed due to ASF.
At the same time, experts note that the authorities left farmers alone with the catastrophic consequences of ASF.
“The market has been sounding the alarm for a year now. They require one thing - increased control! To do this, the State Food and Consumer Service must at least begin to fulfill its direct responsibilities. I cannot understand how this is possible in the 21st century: the economy and export potential of the entire country are being destroyed by inaction and no one cares... All relevant departments and ministries remain silent, leaving farmers, businesses, and consumers alone with the catastrophic consequences of ASF ”, noted People’s Deputy Sergei Trigubenko.
