This is evidenced materials of the criminal case in relation to a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovoina, who was traveling in transit through Ukraine from the Russian Federation to Romania on official business in a MAN car with a semi-trailer.
On June 21, 2017, in Kyiv, he purchased for personal use from a man unknown to him a hunting metal knife of the “Columbia” brand, which he decided to take with him across the Ukrainian-Romanian border.
In order to complicate the discovery of the specified knife during customs control, the driver hid it in the structural cavity of the cabin of his car between the sleeping shelf and the rear wall, access to which is possible only by dismantling the panel, which is screwed with two screws and on June 22.06.2017, 15 at 10:XNUMX. XNUMX min. arrived at the Porubnoye checkpoint of the Chernivtsi customs of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine, where, as a result of a thorough search of the car, this knife was found and later recognized as a bladed weapon.
It is worth noting that it is impossible to detect a metal object in the metal cabin of a truck using technical means, which indicates that customs officials with screwdrivers in their hands are unscrewing the car “by the screws.” Only cars coming from Russia are subject to such inspection, which negatively affects the delivery time of goods and the queues at customs points.
As a result, the court sentenced the European driver to a fine of 3400 hryvnia for attempting to smuggle bladed weapons.
