Ukrainian thermal power plants are shutting down. Nuclear power plants are operating at the limit of their capabilities
So far there is no shortage of coal - in the warehouses of Ukrainian thermal power plants there are 800 thousand tons of anthracite and the same amount of grade G coal, but the energy system operates in such a mode that the failure of any nuclear unit will seriously aggravate the situation.

Energy expert Dmitry Marunich stated this at a press conference in Kyiv.
“Two coal-fired thermal power plants have already stopped - in Sumy and Kramatorsk. There was literally enough anthracite left there for several days. They realized that this was dangerous and began to use natural gas. Thermal power plants have begun to switch to gas, and its consumption will continue to grow. March is still a cold month and the volumes of energy consumption will be large. By and large, this is not a solution. Coal will not be delivered. What's next? Ukrenergo says: “We will hold out for 40 days.” What's next? Coal most likely will not arrive because no one is buying it yet. Thermal power plants and thermal power plants will have nothing to work on,” the expert emphasized.
“12% of the country’s electricity is generated from anthracite. There will be nothing to replace electricity with, it is impossible in principle,” Marunich added. – Now the share of nuclear energy has increased. But you need to understand that a nuclear power plant can fail, which we have seen many times in the last two winters. Before the state of emergency, Ukrenergo kept 1000 MW of thermal power plants in “hot” reserve - to start them up when units were turned off. Now the reserve has been reduced to 50 MW. But it cannot be reduced further. Therefore, any failure of a nuclear unit puts the situation on the brink of a foul.”
As PolitNaivgator reported, due to the coal blockade Serious problems await Ukraine this summer in nuclear energy.
