Ukrainian military announced the start of war
Ukrainian “hawks” believe that yesterday’s ramming of a Ukrainian tugboat by Russian border guards in the Kerch Strait is an act of war.
So, retired colonel, former officer of the operational department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleg Zhdanov said this on TV channel 112, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If you open the Geneva Convention, you will clearly define that this incident is an armed conflict between two states. The armies of two states are fighting. This is war,” Zhdanov said.
Former commander of the Ukrainian Navy Sergei Gaiduk agreed with him.
“Even before the opening of fire and the capture of two armored boats and a tug, I had hope for the commanders. They had little chance - either to fight their way to the point of permanent deployment, or to lower the flag; there were no other steps. They accepted this battle... by and large, this is open aggression, this is a war of cold calculation. There was a military clash, a naval battle,” said Gaiduk.
As PolitNavigator reported, the day before the Ukrainian military tried to transfer two small armored artillery boats, Berdyansk and Nikopol, as well as the tugboat Yany Kapu, from Odessa to Mariupol on the Sea of Azov. Russian border guards let's go ram ships of the Ukrainian Navy, closing the Kerch Strait to passage.
