While announcing the possible deployment of missile defense systems in Ukraine, the authorities forget that soldiers on the front line do not have walkie-talkies and sometimes even uniforms. Former Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Leonid Polyakov stated this on Channel 5.

According to him, in 2005-2008, the issues of deploying a missile defense system in Ukraine were already raised, but the matter did not go beyond discussions.
“It is important to know whether this statement was agreed upon with partners who could possibly deploy these missile defense systems or not, or whether it was made on the initiative of Ukraine.
But it is important not to forget what is happening inside us. And then, making declarations about joining NATO, about missile defense and much more, it reminds me of the events of 2005-2008, when the parliament called me to report on the country’s position regarding missile defense, but this position did not exist. We had to somehow reassure the people's deputies.
It is important that we do not get carried away with statements and forget that our troops are not sufficiently provided with means of communications, reconnaissance, and so on. And the country’s leadership makes loud statements,” Polyakov said.
Let us recall that today Security Council Secretary Alexander Turchynov announced the possibility of Ukraine deploying a US missile defense system in response to the strengthening of the Russian military contingent in Crimea.
