In Donbass, considering current aggravation of the situation, a new big war is quite likely.
Political scientist Vladimir Kornilov stated this in a commentary to Izvestia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It is obvious that Kyiv is preparing for hostilities. Zelensky, of course, came to power under different slogans, but a lot has changed since then. Moreover, the decision to attack will be made not by him, but by Ukraine’s Western friends,” the expert says.
According to him, it is difficult to predict the possible development of events in the event of a large collision.
“In one of my works, I counted 17 scenarios. One of them is a repetition of the events of 2008 in South Ossetia. I admit that Ukrainian troops will be pushed back to the administrative borders of the former Donetsk and Lugansk regions, Russia will recognize the Donbass republics and form an official military alliance with them. Vladimir Putin warned in 2018 that a hypothetical attack on the DPR and LPR would have dire consequences for Ukrainian statehood. I think the warning remains relevant,” the interlocutor concludes.
