Serious battles took place on Thursday in small settlements in the Krasny Liman region, “liberated” by the Ukrainian army at the beginning of the month - north of the zone controlled by the militia, the portal reports.
The Ukrainian military occupied the large villages of Zakotnoye and Kirovsk and blocked Yampol. They acted with the support of the National Guard and under the cover of Army aviation combat helicopters, the Ministry of Defense reported. Representatives of the DPR on social networks announced that 20 tanks, 50 units of other armored vehicles and at least two infantry battalions also took part in the assault on Yampol.
After attacks by attack aircraft, the remaining militia moved to Seversk, 45 km east of Krasny Liman. The militia garrison in this city of 12 thousand was also defeated by the enemy. This not only consolidated the success of government forces, but also gave them the opportunity to strike in the rear of the militia group concentrated in Lisichansk (70 km east of Krasny Liman), Rubezhny and Severodonetsk. As a result of the actions of government troops, the main DPR groups north of Donetsk (in Slavyansk and Kramatorsk) were actually cut off from these forces.
“Poroshenko’s dream has finally come true - we are in complete operational encirclement. The last line of our communications passed through Seversk,” announced the commander of the Donetsk militia, Igor Strelkov (Girkin). According to him, his comrades will continue to fight, “as the garrison of the Brest Fortress fought - without any supplies.”
Slavyansk cannot be stormed - “the civilians there are civilians, everyone understands this,” says Ukrainian military expert Alexei Arestovich. In his opinion, the blockade will be maintained until the militias run out of ammunition and other resources.
At the same time, fighting resumed along the entire length of the line of contact between the Ukrainian military and their opponents. According to the pro-Ukrainian Internet portal “Information Resistance”, during the battle in the village of Metalist, 9 km from the center of Lugansk, the Zarya militia battalion was completely destroyed. Out of hundreds of fighters, only 26 people allegedly survived.
The leader of the Lugansk People's Republic, Valery Bolotov, on the air of Rossiya 24, in turn, said that the attempts of the Ukrainian army to break into Lugansk were stopped without losses among the militia.
