The Ukrainian admiral refused to explain why the Ukrainian Navy boats surrendered without a fight
Former Deputy Minister of Defense Admiral Igor Kabanenko refused to answer on Ukrlife.TV when asked whether Ukrainian sailors should have opened fire on Russian border guards during the incident in the Kerch Strait, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is a very good question, but I will exercise my right not to answer it. I don't have complete information. I've been in such situations myself. It is perceived and seen completely differently. Decisions are made based on very specific aspects. You need to understand what communications took place with higher headquarters in order to make an assessment. I have a lot of questions,” Kabanenko said.
Then the presenter clarified what the military service regulations say about such situations.
“I was taught back in those distant times. There was a strict principle then. The first is to engage in battle. Second: send the signal “Under attack, entered into battle” to the officer on watch. All. But let’s wait until there is more information,” Kabanenko replied.
