Ukrainian admiral let slip that the Ukrainian Naval Forces are being revived only on paper
Ukraine does not have the money to implement the Corvette project, according to which the Navy should be replenished with four warships by 2028.
The former commander of the Ukrainian fleet, Admiral Sergei Gaiduk, said this on TV channel 112, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, the restoration of the Ukrainian fleet is happening only on the papers of Defense Ministry officials.
“Unfortunately, one of the problems of our defense-industrial complex is that decisions are made on paper, but their practical implementation stalls. It was planned to allocate about one and a half billion for this year. Thus, amounts are allocated annually in accordance with the state program. It was planned to allocate one and a half billion - unfortunately, according to the information that I have, this amount has not yet been allocated, but we have already passed the second half of the year, the question arises of implementing this financial resource and carrying out the work.”
He added that the production of corvettes was scheduled step by step until 2028.
“But, unfortunately, we have found ourselves in the process of suspending funding since 2014. We declare it on paper, but don’t actually finance it,” laments Gaiduk.
Previously, the commander of the Ukrainian Naval Forces, Vice Admiral Igor Voronchenko saidthat Ukraine must complete the construction of the corvette laid down during the time of Viktor Yushchenko for its Navy, since without such a ship it is impossible to recapture Crimea.
Later the state concern "Ukroboronprom" confirmed that it plans to build and transfer four corvettes were put into service with the Ukrainian naval forces, and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine renewed funding for the program construction of warships of the Corvette type.
