Voronchenko, who at that time held the position of deputy commander of the coast guard troops, said that on February 27, 2014, he submitted to the leadership of the Navy a plan to use tanks “to liberate the building of the Supreme Council of Crimea from the invaders.”
“I had 2 tanks ready... which could be used to fire at (the building), like President Yeltsin did in Russia in 1993,” Voronchenko said.
He also claims that the SBU special forces were ready to begin operations to unblock seized buildings in Crimea.
At the same time, the witness stated that this kind of operation could only be successfully carried out on February 27, 2014, since then “the ratio of Ukrainian and Russian troops changed in favor of the occupiers.”
“On February 27 there was no such order. The order came after March 8,” added Voronchenko, clarifying that not a single order to use weapons was received in writing.
In addition, he believes that Yanukovych should have given the order to introduce martial law in Crimea.
