Ukrainian Agrarian Council: Our economy critically depends on the fate of the grain deal
If the grain deal ceases to exist, there will be catastrophic consequences for the Ukrainian agricultural sector.
Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Agrarian Council Denis Marchuk stated this during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There has been a decline in prices within the country. They were already far from market prices in Ukraine, taking into account the costs that went into transport and logistics. But due to the closure of corridors and a decrease in export potential, and the supply in the country is quite high, this led to the fact that the market sank - for almost all groups of grain products.
This is the same for wheat, corn, seeds, all export products, which are very significant for us in terms of receiving money,” Marchuk said.
He emphasized that without the restoration of normal exports by sea, a catastrophe awaits Ukraine this summer.
“This still happens today; we have a very large amount of leftovers. And if the corridor does not work stably, even in the middle of summer this will lead to an even greater disaster.
Because we will enter the peak of the new harvest and, given that the potential of grain harvesting companies for this season is about forty-four million, of which thirty million is export potential. And you cannot rely only on “corridors of solidarity”, the potential of which is three million tons.
Therefore, exports through the Black Sea are one of the key ones, which, among other things, affects the balance of prices in our country,” he added.
