The story of the crash of the Ukrainian AN-26 near Kharkov, where more than two dozen cadets died, takes a scandalous turn - the “major” son of a high-ranking Ukrainian military leader was involved in the case.

As it turned out, that evening the dispatchers gave priority landing to another plane, where the son of the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force Sergei Drozdov was, although the first thing they should have done was to land the AN-26 with a faulty engine.

Governor of the Kharkov region Alexey Kucher stated this on the air of the talk show “Freedom of Speech by Savik Shuster,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Returning to Mr. Commander of the Air Force, Mr. Drozdov, I want to focus on several things... You said about your son, who was on the second plane. This is what I'm talking about, that landing priority was given to the second plane, which was operational. You confirmed this,” said Kucher.

“So, you mean that you grounded that plane because the son of the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force was on board?” – TV presenter Savik Shuster clarified.

“I’m simply stating the fact that Mr. Drozdov’s son was on the second board. At the same time, the second board, it was known at the time of landing of the first board that it was faulty.

A completely simple question - the flight director, as well as the people who are responsible for the flights - please tell me, given this information, which aircraft they should have given priority for landing? - answered the coachman.

The commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Sergei Drozdov, denied his involvement in the incident, emphasizing that the plane with his son was already landing, and the crashed An-26 still had to turn around and fly about six kilometers:

“I will answer your question. First, like all parents, I received information that the plane had crashed, and within 20 minutes I was in the same state. Here is the answer to your question.

And I would ask, if a person does not understand the procedure for carrying out flights, organization, not to make hasty conclusions. A plane that was landing at a distance of four kilometers, or a plane that was abeam and still has to fly about six kilometers in a straight line to make a turn and approach for landing - then please do the math, figure it out, and then blame the flight director . I didn’t give any instructions to the flight director at all,” the official assured.
