Ukrainian boxer Usik refused to fight with the Russian
Former world champion in all versions in the first heavyweight Alexander Usik refused to enter the ring against the Russian heavyweight Alexander Povetkin.
As Usik stated in an interview with his fan channel “USYK17”, the fight with the Russian will definitely be politicized, so the boxer from Crimea does not intend to participate in it, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The promoters were talking to each other. It seems to me that this is being translated into some kind of politics. I don’t want to box with Alexander, because it will be political dirt on both sides. Because of this, I don’t want to hold this fight,” Usik said.
Previously, Usik was subjected to harassment in Ukraine because of his public support for the canonical Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.
