Ukrainian Razumkov Center: “Now the Russian Federation faces terrorism, drug trafficking, refugees”
The victory of the Taliban in Afghanistan will allegedly result in problems for the Russian Federation.
Aleksey Melnik, co-director of foreign policy and international security programs at the Kiev Razumkov Center, told the Kiev online publication Apostrophe, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, Russia benefited from the presence of the American contingent in Afghanistan.
“Russia was one of the main beneficiaries of the United States operation. And now they will fully feel the problems of the southern borders - Tajikistan and other Central Asian republics. Now the responsibility for containing the danger will fall on Russian shoulders. After all, those people who previously operated under the flag of Al-Qaeda can accept the flag of the Taliban. This is a real threat to Russia - terrorist sentiments will be fueled on the Russian borders, there will be drug trafficking, there will be refugees. In any case, difficult times await Russia,” Melnik believes.
