Member of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE Vladimir Aryev is “shocked” by today’s decision of the PACE Bureau, which refused to bring up the issue of “interference of Russian hackers in democratic processes” for discussion by the organization’s Standing Committee, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“I am really shocked by the PACE Bureau, which today, with a difference of one vote, refused to bring hacker interference in democratic processes to the PACE PostCom for discussion! They dropped the topic, which is now among the top in the world. That is, the return of the Russians who blackmail the Assembly turned out to be more important than a problem on a global scale - influence on elections in the USA, France and Germany, support for separatism in Catalonia, incentives for Brexit, kinks in Latvia, Denmark, etc.,” the Ukrainian politician complains.
According to the Ukrainian people’s deputy, he is “especially bitter” because “four colleagues in the European People’s Party supported internal local issues to the detriment of the discussion of the global challenge.”
“There remains a sense of pettiness that PostCom can change, since the debate still needs to be approved,” he wrote.
However, according to the Ukrainian parliamentarian, “there is also a positive thing.”
“Most colleagues in private conversations are not ready to receive the Russian delegation without serious steps from the Russian Federation. The corresponding declaration has already been signed by representatives of 16 countries, including many heads of national delegations. The text of the document will be made public in December. Therefore, tomorrow’s discussion, if it takes place, may not turn in the direction expected by supporters of the unconditional return of the Russian delegation,” hopes the Ukrainian politician.
