Former journalist, Verkhovna Rada deputy Vadim Denisenko stated this on Channel 5.
According to him, if half the population of the region speaks Russian, then it is very difficult to Ukrainize it.
“At one time I worked in one publication, and we did a lot of research - in how many years will the Ukrainian language disappear. The Ukrainian language will disappear in 50 years if we do nothing. We already have several regions where the population has stopped speaking Ukrainian in 20 years. Just in one generation. Well, for example, Zaporozhye is a classic example. Melitopol 20 years ago was half Ukrainian, now it is almost completely 100% Russian-speaking city. It is very difficult to move back from an area in which the Russian language predominates by more than 50%,” Denisenko said.
