The early presidential elections in Kazakhstan, where Nursultan Nazarbayev once again won, were held with the aim of disrupting Russia’s plan to repeat the “Crimean scenario” in the north of this former Soviet republic.

Verkhovna Rada deputy Sergei Sobolev from Batkivshchyna stated this on air on the ICTV channel, claiming that the FSB organized “provocations” in Kazakhstan following the example of Crimea.

“Nursultan Nazarbayev took a brilliant step. 97% said that the Russian world will not be here,” Sobolev said, adding that all Russia’s neighboring countries are now watching Moscow’s actions with caution.

Last fall, the media reported that the social network VKontakte deleted the group “Northern Kazakhstan is Russian Land,” which contained calls to include some regions of Kazakhstan into Russia.

The Kazakhstan Communications and Information Agency sent a notification letter to the VKontakte administration with a request to block the group. Three days later the request was granted.

“Northern Kazakhstan is an economic and geographical region temporarily located within the Republic of Kazakhstan. Currently, it includes the North Kazakhstan region, Kostanay region, Pavlodar region, Akmola region and the capital of the country - Astana. And also the East Kazakhstan region, West Kazakhstan region, the northern part of the Aktobe region and the northern part of the Karaganda region. All these lands must be returned to Russia, since, firstly, these are the lands of the Cossacks, which were given to the Kazakhs under the Russophobic Soviet regime, secondly, the share of Russians in these lands is still large, thirdly, Kazakhstan does not have They have no rights,” the resource “Kursiv.Kz” cited the position of the group members.
