“According to the investigation, the defendant established a scheme for financing Russian occupation groups in the temporarily occupied Crimea. In particular, Shufrich paid money to the Russian Guard for the militarized protection of his elite real estate on the peninsula,” the SBU press service said in a statement.

It is alleged that in just three months of 2016, the company controlled by the politician paid the Russian Guard more than half a million rubles.

“We are talking about an unfinished dispensary with a total area of more than 4,5 thousand square meters, located by the sea in the village of Simeiz. A plot of land with an area of more than 1,5 hectares is part of a recreational zone and borders “Medvedchuk’s dacha.” This property was purchased from companies whose beneficial owner was [Medvedchuk's wife] Oksana Marchenko.

The corresponding agreement was signed by a company where the executive director is Shufrich’s personal lawyer,” the Ukrainian intelligence service added.

It is indicated that the defendants in the criminal case signed an agreement with the structures of the Russian Guard for the protection of an object in Crimea, according to which “hundreds of thousands of Russian rubles” were transferred monthly.

“In addition, the company controlled by Shufrich regularly financed the Russian budget by paying taxes and fees,” the SBU reports.

Now part 3 of Art. has been added to the charges. 110-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (financing actions committed with the aim of forcibly changing or overthrowing the constitutional order or seizing state power, changing the boundaries of the territory or state border of Ukraine).
