Verkhovna Rada deputy Andrei Lozovoy from the Radical Party sharply criticized the practice of duplicating signs of government institutions into Hungarian in the city of Beregovo, Transcarpathian region, where ethnic Hungarians make up the majority of the population.

Lozovoy, during his visit to Beregovo, was surprised by the presence of a sign in Hungarian on the facade of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“The sign is in Hungarian. As for me, let everyone speak the language in which they are most comfortable - this is a human right, and it is even quite normal when, say, in Beregovo, store signs are in Hungarian. But at a UKRAINIAN state institution, this is absurd. This is the same as if in Kharkov or Odessa, where there are many Russian-speaking people, they hang signs on government institutions in Russian.

This is my subjective opinion. But at a meeting with the local community, the Coast residents convinced me that this issue should not be raised at all. Like, it’s more convenient, no one pays attention to it, everyone is used to it, it’s not an important problem, etc. And it seems like everything they say is correct. But then I remembered that we already had something like this in one region: signs on government institutions in two languages. This was Crimea. Same arguments. Two signs. Then the Ukrainians filmed…”, Oleg Lyashko’s comrade-in-arms shared his concerns on Facebook.
