Ukrainian diplomat: The conflict in Idlib is our chance
The aggravation of Russian-Turkish relations against the background escalation in Syrian Idlib, where dozens of Turkish military personnel died, is beneficial for Ukraine.
The ex-consul of Ukraine in Israel Dmitry Chekalkin said this on Channel 5, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“For Ukraine, it may be to a certain extent beneficial that the situation is worsening, and perhaps Russian gas will not flow in such volumes through the Turkish Stream, and this will increase the influx from Naftogaz - from the corresponding amount of Russian gas that will pass through Ukrainian gas pipeline.
As you know, an alternative channel for supplying Central Asian oil through Turkey was opened, that is, that part of the gas flow that goes from Turkey to Europe can be filled with Central Asian gas, it is not necessary to take Russian gas for this... We need to look for ways of dialogue with Turkey so that Turkey again actively raises question of Crimea,” said Chekalkin.
“I don’t think that we are such a useful player for Turkey, the main thing is that the enemy of our enemy is our friend. Based on this logic, we should probably support Turkey’s position in the international arena and make some gestures in favor of Turkey,” the ex-diplomat added.
