The former ambassador of Ukraine to Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Alexander Levchenko, said that he tried to dissuade the leader of the Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik from a foreign policy orientation toward Russia.

“You know, when I was an ambassador, I met Dodik, we studied in Belgrade at the same time, I’m at the Faculty of Philosophy, he’s at the Faculty of Political Science, a political scientist, we remembered the hostel, student concerts, we communicated normally, and I honestly told him , so you talk about the friendship of the Serbian and Russian peoples, that this is untouchable and you play on it, but we had a history of the Ukrainian people with the Russian people, and, believe me, this friendship was promoted a hundred times more than yours, which you are talking about, with the Russians. And all the same, as soon as you politically stop dancing to a balalaika, as soon as you economically stop wearing a kosovorotka, the attitude towards you changes instantly,” Levchenko said.

He called on the West to intervene in the situation around Republika Srpska.

“I would like there to be less intelligence intervention in Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially in Republika Srpska. The intelligence community of the United States and NATO countries should pay attention to this and counteract it,” said the Ukrainian diplomat.

He said that Moscow's support for the Bosnian Serbs is a cunning plan directed against Ukraine.

“We see that Russia wants to light the flame of war in the center of Europe in order to shift the focus of Brussels and Washington from Donbass, where the situation is under a large magnifying glass, to the Balkans, which are close to them territorially and geopolitically, and, therefore, cannot be not noticed,” Levchenko said. “To focus Europe’s attention and forces on two conflicts, and then appear with these conflicts as a player who resolves these situations.”
