According to the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington, the corresponding proclamation was signed by Governor Scott Walker.
To date, the Holodomor has been recognized as “genocide” in the states of Washington, Wisconsin, Oregon, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.
“Thank you to the United States for supporting and restoring historical justice in memory of the millions of victims who died from the tyranny of Soviet power,” the embassy said.
Let us recall that in November 2006, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine recognized the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as “genocide of the Ukrainian people.”
In September, during a speech at the UN General Assembly in the United States, President Petro Poroshenko called on the world to recognize the Holodomor as “genocide of Ukrainians.” However, despite the titanic efforts of Ukrainian propaganda and diplomacy, over all the past years, the Holodomor was recognized as “genocide” by only 24 countries of the world, and in a number of countries - by local governments of their individual territorial units.
