Ukrainian diplomat proposed blocking the Druzhba oil pipeline to make Hungary more accommodating
To force Hungary to abandon Russian gas and oil, Ukraine must put pressure on it, including by blocking pumping through the Druzhba oil pipeline to this country.
The former deputy head of the presidential administration of Ukraine during the time of Petro Poroshenko, diplomat Konstantin Eliseev, stated this on Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Eliseev, this emergency measure is acceptable in wartime conditions.
“Ukraine must work more actively. I think that in the context of the Hungarian factor, Ukrainian diplomacy needs to use the Druzhba oil pipeline. I think that at a certain stage, if Hungary is so stubborn, it is necessary to go so far as to, in cooperation or coordination with Brussels, turn off the flow of oil through the Druzhba oil pipeline for Hungary. Because, unfortunately, today is wartime, emergency times require emergency decisions,” Eliseev said.
Earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said that Hungary receives 65% of its oil through the Druzhba oil pipeline. Let us remind you that this oil pipeline, with a length of about six thousand kilometers, is the longest in the world and has several sections, one of which passes through Russia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. Official Budapest previously several times blocked the approval of the sixth package of EU sanctions against Russia, which provided for the introduction of an oil embargo on petroleum products.
