Ukrainian diplomat threatened Serbia with recognition of Kosovo in retaliation for voting against the resolution on Crimea
Ambassador of Ukraine to Serbia Alexander Alexandrovich sharply and frankly expressed in the publication New Serbian Political Thought regarding Serbia’s vote at the UN against the resolution on human rights violations in Crimea. “In the end, this position may turn against Serbia itself and Ukraine, in response to it, may not recognize Kosovo as Serbian. In the words of an English proverb, Serbia shot itself in the foot,” he noted.

“There used to be an agreement between the USA and the USSR, thanks to which Yugoslavia remained a single state. Today there is no such agreement, and major players will tear Serbia to pieces. This is the tragedy of your neutral policy. Instead of defending on all sides, it is better to choose one. Ukraine, for example, today is reaping the benefits of the neutrality that it previously adhered to,” says the ambassador frankly, upset that Serbia chose a non-Ukrainian side.
He believes that this vote of Serbia at the UN can be explained by a hint from Vladimir Putin. In one of his interviews with Western media, the Russian leader hinted that Russia would not recognize Kosovo as Serbian if Serbia did not consider Crimea Russian.
